Subunits composition and allosteric control in Carcinus aestuarii hemocyanin.
Carcinus aestuarii hemocyanin (Hc) exists in two aggregation forms at pH 7.5 and 20 mM Ca2+: 24S accounting for 90% of total hemocyanin and 16S accounting for 10%. Removal of metal cations by EDTA at neutral pH causes the complete dissociation of 24S hemocyanin into two different 16S. At pH 9.2, 24S hemocyanin dissociates into a pH stable 16S and a 5S component. The 5S component consists of thr...
متن کاملFluorescence spectroscopy of the tryptophan microenvironment in Carcinus aestuarii hemocyanin.
The steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence properties of the multitryptophan minimal subunit CaeSS2 from Carcinus aestuarii hemocyanin have been studied with the aim of probing the environment of the fluorophores within the protein matrix. Subunit a of Panulirus interruptus hemocyanin, whose X-ray structure is known, has been also studied. The results are compared with those collected with...
متن کاملhemocyanin subunits composition as a molecular marker for identification of intra-specific variations of gammarus
crustacean hemocyanins represent a unique case of molecular heterogeneity among oxygen-carrying proteins. two populations of gammarus lacustris and six populations of gammarus komareki were identified and isolated from aquatic habitats of ardabil (northwest of iran). the populations were nominated based on name of isolated region. principal component analysis of morphological absolute attribute...
متن کاملShort Communication Different Hemocyanin Oxygen-affinities in Carcinus Maenas from Maine and Arcachon
The green or shore crab Carcinus maenas (Linnaeus) is believed to have emigrated by ship from its native Europe to the Atlantic coast of North America. The chronological sequence of new records suggests the arrival in New York of pioneer individuals in the early 19th century, followed by gradual northward extension of the species range (Almaca, 1963; J. T. Carlton, personal communication). The ...
متن کاملFirst cytochemical study of haemocytes from the crab Carcinus aestuarii (Crustacea, Decapoda)
For the first time, a morphological study of haemocytes from the crab Carcinus aestuarii was carried out by means of light microscopy and differing cytochemical assays. Analysis of haemocyte size frequency distribution (performed by means of a Coulter Counter) revealed the presence of two distinct haemocyte fractions in C. aestuarii haemolymph, depending on cell size. The first fraction was of ...
